About Me
I have 30 years’ experience as a photographer. Well, okay, more than 30 but now I’m starting to date myself here! I am primarily self-taught, fidgeting and playing around with any camera I could get my hands on since I was a kid. About fifteen years ago I expanded upon my own knowledge and graduated with honors from the New York Institute of Photography and am a former member of Professional Photographers of America.
Creative Philosophy
Photography has always allowed me to capture a feeling or emotion I couldn’t express with words and I apply that philosophy to everything I photograph. Mostly I work with nothing more than my camera and natural light. I find that this approach allows me to create images that are often dramatic and always authentic, images that feel as though I’ve stumbled on a very private moment.
What Sets Me Apart
I’m more than a technical photographer. I’ve never been a fan of receiving 30 or more proofs of the same picture with the same backdrop with slight variations. I like diversity in imagery. When I edit your photo session, I employ a number of different styles and techniques to produce your gallery filled with variety and beautifully edited final images with a fine art quality.
My Favorite Subjects
My lifelong love affair with animals makes them my favorite and ideal subjects to photograph. They are equal parts fun and challenging (especially wildlife!) and I love to provide pet parents with beautiful portraits of their “babies” to treasure. I have more than 20 years of experience in dog training and behavior modification, which allows me to connect with animals in a way some others cannot. I have often seen people be utterly surprised when their dog “is being so good!” around me. It surprises them. It doesn’t surprise me.
I also have a love affair with the flora and fauna of nature. I am passionate about creating botanical photographs that have a dreamy, painterly quality to them. Along with shooting and processing my own work, I have also fallen in love with restoring other people's precious photographs. I offer expert restoration and editing to bring old photos back to life. Giving Back
Because of my love for and experience with animals, I have been heavily involved in animal welfare and rescue work for more than 25 years. I love to work with amazing people and amazing animals to help find them their forever homes. Part of how I help is through my photography and I donate my services to several groups throughout the year. I am proud to be a member of HeARTs Speak, an international group of artists committed to using their talents to help animals in need.
